Approximately 11,000 residents call Center City Charlotte NC home.  That number is expected to increase to 21,000 by 2010.  Uptown Charlotte offers a trend-setting urban atmosphere within the four Uptown Wards inside the inner-loop. You'll hear the areas referred to as First Ward Charlotte, Second Ward Charlotte, Third Ward Charlotte and Fourth Ward Charlotte.  Uptown Charlotte real estate consists of an array of condominums, penthouses, uptown Charlotte apartments and single-family homes. Best of all, they're all within walking distance to shopping, Uptown Charlotte dining, arts, entertainment and sporting events.

New construction is underway everywhere you turn, you will see development of Uptown Charlotte condo projects happening all over the Center City.  As the numbers grow, so do the amenities that add so much to Uptown Charlotte living.  With so much to do in Uptown Charlotte, residents live, work and play without using cars except on rare occassions. The new light-rail transit system offers a wonderful commuting alternative as well.

The diverse and eclectic demographics of Uptown Charlotte ranges from young professionals, to the Arts crowd, to empty-nester Retirees, to college students from nearby Johnson & Wales, to entertainment and sports celebrities who reside in some of the Uptown Charlotte Condos and penthouses.  Whether you call it Charlotte Downtown or Charlotte Uptown, you'll find plenty of excitement in Center City Charlotte NC.

Center city offers something for adults, families and children. The area of Tryon and Trade Streets includes Discovery Place, North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Spirit Square, the McColl Center for Visual Arts and a handful of private art galleries. The area also includes the Levine Museum of the New South and the $40 million ImaginOn, which is a collaborative project of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Children's Theatre.  It includes a youth library, classrooms, technology center, early childhood reading center, performance stages and a craft shop.

The massive Bank of America Stadium anchors Uptown Charlotte NC on the southwest end. The snarling panther statues outside the gates hint at the passion inside as the Carolina Panthers take on NFL opponents.  In the heart of Uptown Charlotte is Bobcats Arena, which is home to the NBA Charlotte Bobcats, and has hosted a variety of sports and entertainment events and concerts, including the ACC, CIAA and NCAA basketball tournaments to name a few.

Across from the arena is the soon-to-be completed 53-story EpiCentre, which will be a massive residential/retail/entertainment complex complete with restaurants, movie theater and bowling lanes.  A new Ritz-Carlton Hotel will round out this impressive project which will transform this two-block area of Center City.  If all of the above isn't enough, throw in the new Nascar Hall Of Fame which is under construction at the corner of Caldwell and Stonewall streets, which is expected to be completed by 2009.

From a commerce perspective, there are approximately 77,000 people who work in Charlotte's center city, many of which are employed by one of the Fortune 500 Headquarter companies of Duke Energy, Wachovia and Bank of America.

New residents moving to Uptown Charlotte will want closer shopping centers, and retail is coming Uptown to meet that need. Metropolitan, a mixed use development is set to open in 2008, which will include a stacked Home Depot and Target as well as urban lofts and terraces overlooking the little Sugar Creek Greenway.
