The Sportsplex at Matthews in Mecklenburg County is one of many selling points for Mathews, NC real estate. It’s an athletic facility consisting of nine synthetic turf fields, a 2,500-seat grass stadium and two grass fields. Every field at the Sportsplex are multi-purpose fields. Each accommodates various sports like football, soccer, rugby and lacrosse.
The stadium features a two story field house. The field house offers locker rooms for the home team, the away team and referees. The stadium also features a conference room with a 90-person occupancy threshold. The conference room is even rent-able, making it another perk of living in Matthews. Plus, the Sportplex offers two miles of paved trails and two playgrounds for kids.
It took awhile for Mecklenburg County residents and the residents in the town of Matthews to see this vision come to fruition. Years of delays in building the Sportsplex at Matthews were attributed to the 2007-2012 financial crisis. It opened for a soft opening in 2015 and was completed in early 2017. The entire project was the result of a partnership between Woolpert, Mecklenburg County and the town of Matthews.
