If you’re getting ready to list your house and wondering what flowering plant will grow under pine trees, you’re not alone. Home sellers frequently try landscaping with flowers under pine trees, only to watch them die as potential buyers come to home shop. Don’t be caught off guard. Very few flowering plants will grow under pine trees. Still, acid-loving creeping phlox will! It’s also incredibly easy to plant and maintain.
Choose a perennial creeping phlox, because home buyers dig knowing that the landscaping will look good even the following year. Creeping phlox reaches only about 4 to 8 inches tall while growing in pine woodlands, and it’s beautiful! They also start flowering early in the spring, so it can help make your home look inviting for much of the year. Plus, they’re deer-resistant, which means they won’t have a surprise feast on your beautiful flowers the night before potential buyers stop in to check out your home.
To plant them, just separate the pine needles, dig a shallow hole, and plant the phlox. Don’t add extra soil, but spreading the pine needles back up around the newly planted phlox helps as a mulch. Only water phlox if they are wilting and only in the morning. That’s really all it takes!
