Millennials are less likely to relocate than earlier generations, but when they do move, what city do they flock to? More than anywhere else, they come here to Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte beat out even cities like Norfolk and Seattle.
We don’t blame them either. Charlotte has a great deal to offer residents of any age. Plus, Charlotte’s population is made up of people who moved from outside the city. It helps not to be the only outsider. Even though it’s a bustling metropolis, it’s still small enough that people will smile at you when you pass them on the street. Actually, the transplant culture seems to unite the people of Charlotte.
Data derived by Smart Asset showed that over 70,000 people between the ages of 20 and 34 moved into Charlotte, according to data from the Census Bureau from 2015. As Realtors, we’ve noticed the trend, which is also evident by the strong real estate market (millennials are particularly drawn to the vibrant energy of Uptown Charlotte) as well as new construction. Charlotte was also recognized as the fourth fastest-growing metropolitan area in the nation and was called one of the ten best places to live by Money Magazine.
