North Carolina’s Tag and Tax Together program is for your vehicle property tax only. Keep in mind, it has nothing to to with your mortgage or home property tax. The Tag and Tax Together program streamlines the payments for vehicle registration and vehicle taxes. It started five years ago. All payments go right to the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles. The DMV then distributes the funds to the appropriate counties, depending on where you live.
You can’t renew your registration anymore without paying the vehicle property tax at the same time. The payments are for the coming year. Payments for vehicle taxes are due at the same time as the vehicle registration due date and are printed on the renewal notice that you get in the mail.
Tag And Tax Together Program Payments
To pay taxes and registration for North Carolina’s Tag and Tax Together program online, just go to the Vehicle Registration Renewal page. There, you’ll simply pay with a credit or check card. It saves time over paying in person or by mail. Of course, you can still pay in person or by mail too! But keep this in mind: Do not send your payment by mail if you have recently moved! Your vehicle property tax may need recalculation. So, go to your new local license plate agency. Since the law changes, you can’t pay your vehicle tax at your county tax office anymore!
