If you live in the City of Charlotte and are at least 65-years-old, you might qualify for Charlotte’s auto fee reduction. If you qualify for the Homestead Exclusion, you can also apply for a reduction in the auto fee for your vehicles! There is an income limit, but it doesn’t take into consideration the value of your acquired assets, only your disposable income. It’s a simple way to save a little money, so we think you should go for it!
How To Apply
To apply, all you have to do is fill out this simple form and mail it and a copy of the most recent year’s state income tax return , and proof of age to:
Mecklenburg County Tax Collector
P.O. Box 31457
Charlotte, NC 28231-1457
If you didn’t file taxes, you could alternately send in a social security statement, 1099 or any dividend statements as your proof of income.
You also have to make sure your tax bill is fully paid before you submit the application, so that it’s not denied.
Disposable Income
A disposable income is income that includes money from Social Security, retirement funds, dividends and some other sources, according to the City of Charlotte. Keep in mind that the income limit is a disposable income that exceeds $29,000.
